KBShimmer Men Are From Marsala Swatch and Review Pantone Color of the Year 2015

press sample
I'm sure you've all caught the buzz on the chosen color of the year from Pantone! Well, so has KBShimmer with Men Are From Mars-ala releasing Jan. 1, 2015!
Celebrate the New Year and Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year with KBShimmer! “Men are from Mars-ala” is an earthy, red-brown shade that will make a fresh new addition to any neutral nail palette. Worn outdoors or in bright light, Men are from Mars-ala features a linear holographic and when indoors, this shade is rich and warm – just like a glass of Marsala wine should be!
This unique shade initially didn't excite me. But I've grown to love it. It looks quite different in different lighting, at times more red than brown, sometimes taking on an orange-ish hue. It photographed too red for me so I did do some altering of the color in the editing phase trying to get it as true to life as I could.
This is 2 easy coats (perfect formula) and no top coat.
What are your thoughts on the Pantone shade? And do you think KBShimmer did a great job creating Men Are From Mars-ala to match it?

Men Are From Mars-ala will be available Jan 1, 2015 for $8.75 available internationally at and

Q-tips Holiday Glam Herringbone Gradient Nail Art

I've partnered with Q-tips today to create my Thanksgiving holiday nails! I'm excited to share with you how I used Q-tips Precision Tips to create my Q-tips Holiday Glam manicure! It's easy to make a Holiday Look with Q-tips Precision tips. I actually use them all the time for mani clean ups.
Q-tips® Precision Tips™
• The ultimate beauty tool, with tapered ends specially designed for precise application and touch-ups for nails, eyes, lips and more – perfect for achieve the ultimate holiday makeup look.
• Gentle and soft to use on delicate areas of the face, including around the eyes
• Made with 100% pure cotton for soft and gentle use
• “Q” stands for quality
• Affordable alternative to expensive makeup brushes
• Offers a clean and fresh application every time
• Flexible stick
• Light and portable for beauty on-the-go
• Convenient
• Disposable
Here's the design I made for Thanksgiving using Q-tips Precision Tips!
I started with 2 coats of the incredibly lovely A England Encore Margot, a silver icy blue holo. It's more amazing in real life, the photos don't show off the holo very well!
I always use Q-tips Precision Tips to help clean up messy manicures! They just work really nicely for me. I was thrilled to be asked to contribute a design to the Q-tips Holiday Glam looks! Find plenty more designs on their Instagram page.
 Q-tips Precision Tips
I used the Herringbone design from Vinyl Quickies to help create this. And then I used a sponge to dab on a gradient of A England Virgin Queen and Queen of Scots, from the new Elizabeth and Mary collection, both stunning!
You see how it creates a mess!
I prefer Q-tips Precision Tips dipped in polish remover for this kind of cleanup because, well, it's precise! You can get in close to clean, without ruining your work.
For the ring finger nail, I used the "leftover" pieces of vinyl and placed them individually to make the reverse gradient. After cleanup, top coat and done.

I really love how these turned out! Even my hubby said they were one of his all time faves!
Visit Q-tips instagram for tons of inspiration and Holiday Glam looks!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating! I'm so thankful to have been able to fly back to NY to spend it with my family!
All the best,

KBShimmer Valentine Trio Swatch and Review Plus Nail Art

press sample
How's this for late! I've just discovered these swatches...of the last Valentine collection from KBShimmer that I never posted. Ugh. Well, in my defense, 2014 was a very difficult and busy year for me. I imagine you've all seen these lovely shades, but I'm going to show you what I did with them anyway. Hope you like. And just keep in mind these are old swatches with my old camera. If you are thinking of making a KBShimmer purchase, I'll take this moment to remind you of some awesome deals they have going on right now, including a free LE shade Holly Back Girl with a $70 purchase. Check out their latest collection swatches here.
I've shown KBShimmer U Rock My Heart over a gradient of Turbulence and I'd Rather Be With Blue.
Here's Turbulence and I'd Rather Be With Blue gradient, they are both satin matte finish and super gorgeous. Truly sorry, these beauties are no longer available.
KBShimmer U Rock My Heart - Neon pink glitters in hex and star shapes almost glow, while black hearts, hexes, stars and shreds add a edgy look to this top coat. How awesome is this polish?
No troubles applying this glitter top coat, no fishing needed for the different glitters. And that pinky finger, the hearts in a row like that, that happened naturally - I promise.
KBShimmer Turbulence, I'd Rather Be With Blue, U Rock My Heart
KBShimmer U Rock My Heart, Falling For Hue, Whole Lava Lovin
KBShimmer Whole Lava Lovin - a cherry red linear holo. Absolutely lovely. This is 2 coats, no top coat.
Gave it a glitter french tip! Definitely liked the way this looked!
KBShimmer Falling For Hue - a white base with metallic red , pink and fuchsia hex glitters in various sizes. I think this is 2 coats (sorry, I did it a long time ago!) but it might be three. This in my opinion is a perfect polish. I truly love it <3

Salon Perfect Nail It! Holiday Exclusive Swatch and Review

press sample
I've got a fun post for you today. A collaboration between two big names in the nail world! Salon Perfect created three exclusive, not available in stores, Holiday shades. Those three exclusive shades plus three complementary shades (part of the core collection available in Walmart now) are being given away through Nov 30 on Read on for my thoughts and swatches on these.

Salon Perfect Champagne Toast - micro gold holo glitter top coat. This is one coat over Salon Perfect Carbon Copy.  Forgive me, I've never used the infamous China Glaze Fairy Dust, but this to me seems like the gold version. It is super pretty, with no formula issues at all. I did actually leave the very tops of carbon copy uncovered on purpose so you could see how Champagne Toast changed it.
