Hi! Hope your Christmas was wonderful if you celebrated. Thought you'd like to see what was on my nails for Xmas day! I received Orly Secret Society Collection from HB Beauty Bar, and knew I wanted to create a nail art for the holiday with it. Shop for this collection (and much more!) at www.hbbeautybar.com. Say hello to them on facebook, twitter, and Instagram too! :)

I have the entire collection of 6 shades on my nails here, with home made nail polish decals and two coats of Seche Vite to smooth it out. Keep reading after the jump to see pics of this before the top coat. I almost like it better pre-top coat. Let me know what you think.

I don't remember where I saw this technique first, but I know when I saw Rosie from Little Nails entry for the Picture Polish Blog Fest 2013 I promised myself I'd try out my skills making my own decals. She has an amazing tutorial that I linked to, and here's just a quick summary of how I accomplished this:
  • Paint polish onto wax paper, letting each coat dry down before adding another. Let this dry thoroughly.
  • Peel off dried nail polish from wax paper.
  • Use different sized hole punchers to get the perfect circles, and scissors for the straight edged ones.
  • Use a dotting tool (or fingers) to pick up and place each shape on semi wet nail.

Above and below are photos before the top coat went on, and I'm pretty much loving it like this. You can see the 3D nature of it. I am hoping you can identify that I made a Christmas tree with the red (Risque Encounter) and gold (Lavish Bash). The other nails are meant to be wrapped up presents/wrapping paper using the other shades in the collection. And of course, the black base which was almost a one coater is Masked Ceremony

Final photos above and below show this mani top coated, a trade off for sure. You can see the glitters and gloss, but lose the 3d effect.

What do you think? Did you like with or without top coat better? I liked this mani a lot, felt festive and in the holiday spirit for sure without being too traditional.

I'm looking forward to creating some New Years Eve inspired manis..then..bring on the Spring collections :D How about you? Are you ready for Spring nails?

  5. I enjoy the 3D look without topcoat - even if it is impractical - it really makes the design that much more original looking. :) Very nice!! Creative use of decals.
