Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular - Music - Beastie Boys Licensed To Ill Freehand Nail Art

Partial PR samples
Hi friends!
Super pleased to share with you what I created for our Digit-al Dozen music theme today. I went through a few ideas that weren't right, and started to feel stuck. I decided to look into my own collection of CD's for inspiration, many of which are ones which I inherited from my brother. I saw a Beastie's CD and I was perfectly clear that's what I needed to put on my nails. This manicure challenged me for sure, I had no idea if I could get it done. It's also quite sentimental as well. Read on and I'll tell you why. First, a few fact, from wikipedia.com:
Licensed to Ill is the debut album by the Beastie Boys, released in 1986. It was the first rap LP to top the Billboard album chart. It was also one of Columbia Records' fastest-selling debut records to date and eventually sold over 9 million copies in the United States.
In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums.[14]
It is still the only album by a white hip-hop act to receive the coveted 5 mics from The Source.[13]
In 2003, the album was ranked number 217 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[15] It was also ranked by Rolling Stone as the greatest debut album of all time.
Vibe – Included in Vibe's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century.[16]

Here's the first look, before I top coated.
The base is Zoya Jacqueline. Sephora by OPI Going Nude, Eh? OPI mini white from neon set, OPI Skyfall, China Glaze Liquid Leather and Pelican Gray, Sinful Colors Bubble Bath
I wanted this one matte, so I top coated with Seche first (I've found that putting matte top coat directly over nail art has a tendency to smear it) then painted Essie Matte About You.
So, here's some background...my older brother was always very passionate about music, and never appreciated his little sister's music choices. I purchased and introduced this album to him..and it was the beginning of him seeing me as a friend, instead of just a little sister. The sentimental part is that I only learned this info, from his best friend, after he died. My brother was always a force to be reckoned with. Knowing that I influenced him is something I cherish. <3 This entire album brings back awesome memories. How about you?

What do you think? Wish I could have fit the Beastie on the tail, but otherwise I'm pretty proud of this one. :D

All the best,
Victoria

  6. This is so incredible I just can't even. Yeah, I'm pretty much just sitting here with my mouth wide open. Utterly, ridiculously fantastic. Husband actually came to see what I was looking at because he heard me gasp, and he was blown away too.

So glad your brother's friend could share that story with you. This manicure is such an amazing tribute!

  11. Your post brought a tear to my eye! I will always hold this record close to my heart because it was one of the first albums that my 2 older brothers and I totally agreed on and I have so many memories of us listening to it and each singing different parts of the vocals. I was so proud that I knew all the words to 'Paul Revere' well before both of my brothers! I was deeply saddened when I head that Adam Yauch had passed because it seemed like a piece of my childhood died with him. I'm sorry for the loss of your brother, it's so sweet that you have this memory to make you smile!
