Reverse french zigzag chevron!

Hiya!! I created this manicure for a guest post on Love for Lacquer that will be posted on 5/11/12. I wanted not only to showcase some of the newer polishes released lately but also to show you one of the trends that are hot this year. I adore the newest OPI NYC Ballet and Spider-man collections, so I picked two of those to show you.
I wanted to put them together with some nail art that I haven't tried yet, so I looked up nail trends for 2012 and found this from Refinery 29 and this  Reverse french chevron.

Snapshot:
Here is my take on the reverse french chevron, with a twist! I added zigzags to them because, well, I wanted to :D
I used Gelous base coat and 2 coats of OPI Care to Danse from the New York City Ballet 2012 collection, which is a dreamy jelly/sheer lilac. Gah. I.am.in.love!!! After this was COMPLETELY dry, I used my zigzag edging scissors to cut tape for chevrons. OPI Into the Night from the 2012 Spider-Man Collection as my contrasting color, is an amazing slightly frosted/metallic deep blue. Like, a night blue, yeah!! :D I used 2 coats of this as well.

OPI Care to Danse. This is only 2 coats. Isn't it lovely!!
Here's OPI Care to Danse, 2 coats, no top coat and the tape piece to block off the blue polish coming next.

I think it turned out pretty cool. Looking forward to trying it without the zigzags next time, I think this one is more fun, but the regular reverse chevron is more elegant. How do you like it? Are you buying any of the Ballet or Spider-man collections?

So happy to have you reading :)

  1. I LOVE this technique!! With my luck, I would end up using striping tape the wrong way and it would peel off the bottom layer of my nail polish. How do you use striping tape exactly?

I love these colors too. SO pretty. I almost thought your fingers were nude, the OPI is so very sheer yet elegant.

    1. Hi, thank you! This one wasn't made with striping tape...just regular tape cut on the edges.

    1. Thank you! You just have to be careful the tape doesn't tear. Otherwise, it does offer a lot of possibility!

    1. Thank you! Some times I get a clean cut..sometimes I don't and just have to try again. This was a Fiskars scissor, I wonder if the quality of the scissor makes a difference? I have more trouble with the tape tearing as I pull it off, and then sticking to the nail. Luckily it didn't happen with this mani :)
