Chanel Hong Kong Collection Vernis and Pearl River Palette Swatch and Review

Hello all!
Hope your Monday didn't treat you too badly. I've been trying to get this post up aaaall day. Sometimes my kids just don't cooperate with my "nail work" as they call it ;)

So I have the "exclusive, limited-edition" Hong Kong Collection from Chanel tonight. I was due for a splurge and the words "limited-edition" just spell trouble for me. I ordered these directly from Chanel.com and they showed up in a matter of days, like 2 days to be exact. Giddy!
Here's what I created with these beauties. I'll show show swatches of each on it's own after the nail art.
Chanel Western Light, Chanel Eastern Light

I did these with the help of a craft punch design and tape. Yep, love my tape :) These polishes both worked perfectly for nail art as they have a great formula and are highly pigmented.
I think this turned out great, a simple and classy look. I sure do love dressing up the french manicure.

Chanel Eastern Light is a clean opaque bright white. Whether you want to pay $30 for a great white is up to you. I will tell you that I hoped it would be perfect in 2 coats but I needed 3 coats for full coverage. It did go on easily and did not streak. High gloss shine as well. These swatches are shown with top coat.

Chanel describes this as a "sophisticated shade of deep chocolate, burnished by a heart of pearly red."
Great formula, easily opaque in 2 coats. The "pearly red" is there, but mind you, it's only visible in certain lights. Otherwise it's a rich dark brown.

Here's the Pearl River Palette, part of the Hong Kong De Chanel Collection.
Here's the description from Chanel "Comprised of five gold-imbued eyeshadow shades, this exclusive palette recalls the luminous beauty of Hong Kong, reflected in the China Sea. Warm tones are brought together in an elegant harmony, each embossed with the iconic quilted pattern. Easily blendable, the soft powder texture is luxurious to the touch, while the versatile shade range offers unlimited eye looks. The two darkest shades may be used as eyeliner."
I love browns, whites and golds..but I wasn't sure about that orangey one second from the right. I was pleasantly surprised once I had it on my lids. Superb formula that blends effortlessly and lasted through the day. Looked great with my skin tone and my brown eyes that have hints of green.

What do you think? Does Chanel make you weak in the knees? Would you even contemplate a $30 white nail polish?

That's it for today! Be well,
Victoria

  7. Okay, so they may just be black and white - so why am I so in love with both of them?! I don't know if I'd ever actually pay that much though!

  8. I can't justify $30 for a bottle of polish to myself, period! Not even a really fabulous and unique polish, I'd wait for somebody to dupe it (not judging anyone who would buy it, I'd just feel like I was short-changing my savings for goals if I spent that much on such a little and unnecessary thing!)

And a white... well, white just doesn't play well with my skin tone, and if I should happen to get a bug up my butt for white nails, with a little care the Wet & Wild white goes on nicely.

  10. I doubt I'd ever spend $30 on one bottle of nail polish (it's rough for a college student to buy a bottle for $8 lol) but I love this mani! good idea using craft scissors! :)

  11. Your tape french is gorgeous and this whole collection is just stunning! I would totally spend that kind of money on something like this...if only those shadows would work with my skintone! A name, the inspiration behind something, and so the energy in it, definitely amps up the appeal to certain things. I mean, a gorgeous white called Eastern Light, reminiscent of the fr east... How beautiful does that sound?

  12. I got Eastern Light and I love it! I only needed two coats, but my nails are shorter now, so I'm sure I will need three when they decide to grow without breaking again :-(
The eye palette is beautiful!! I love those colors... I think I don't really "need" it but..... Chanel + LE *must resist*
