Money Smart Nail Art Entry with OPI Glints of Glinda and My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours
Happy Friday everyone!!
We are all snowed in here in NY, what better excuse than to sit down and get to work on my Money Smart Nail Art contest entry sponsored by MoneySupermarket.com. I decided to show off the spray bottle splatter technique that I discovered back in June, 2012. Check out my post from June here. I then tried it out again to see if I could get consistent results and found I liked the second attempt, black and white splatter even better.
So here, I'm showing you a tutorial of how I got it done and another go at it.
THE FINAL LOOK:
THE SUPPLIES:
OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours, OPI Glints of Glinda, Nail polish thinner, Vaseline, Spray bottle, Q-tips Precision tips.
STEP 1:
Paint your base color. I used OPI Glints of Glinda from the 2013 Soft Shades Collection: Oz the Great and Powerful. It's a nude jelly with a perfect formula. I used 3 coats here and I think it suits my coloring very well. I happen to not mind visible nail line and love how this gives a soft and clean look.
STEP 2:
Mix up a combination of your chosen nail color and some nail polish thinner into a cleaned out household spray bottle. I used a bottle that previously had a sample hair product in it.
I covered my hand in vaseline to aid in clean up. I used the precision Q-tip to help carefully cover skin surrounding the nail.
SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY until it looks how you want it. Different bottles and differing amounts of polish versus thinner will get you different results. Just experiment :)
FINAL LOOK:
This look is altered greatly based on which colors you choose (obviously) and on how much thinner you add to the polish in your spray bottle. Whether the bottle you have puts out a fine mist or a "chunkier" mist will also play a role. I like how this turned out but think perhaps I put a touch too much thinner in there.

OPI My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours is a cream polish, so appropriately named. This color is hot. I don't know if it's a red orange or an orange red, but it's hot.

ReplyDeleteI tried it once with a little perfume sample bottle but it sprayed like shit... maybe something else will work better! It looks great :).
