Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular - Book Nail Art with Zoya

Hello friends!
So...you may have read that I fell behind in my Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular where we went back in time to revisit each month's theme for the last year. I intend to complete the two I missed when my kiddos got sick. Here's a simple one, but I liked it just the same. The theme is "books" and I wanted something well...simple...lol but also something with meaning. I didn't just want to do a book mani of a simple cover because it would be easy. I am an avid reader, well, I used to be before blogging and have shelves of books in every room. I went through them until I came across A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. I read this book many many years ago. It hit me hard then and it's still in my top 10. It was first published in 1995, set in Mumbai, India, and tells the tale of 4 main characters during 1975 and 1984 otherwise know as The Emergency. This was a period of expanded government power and crackdowns of civil liberties. It's so well written and tells the tale of the changes in India and what it was like to live there so poignantly, I felt like I was there. One of those books where I didn't want it to end.

I started with two coats of Zoya Purity and when dry, I used tape to block off the middle and painted a red stripe with Zoya Sooki and the black stripe with Zoya Raven. That's it. :)

What do you think? Would you wear this as is? It's not one I would normally, but once it was done I thought it looked pretty cool.

All the best,
Victoria

  1. I really like your mani, but also, that book sounds very interesting. I've really enjoyed all the novels I've read which are set against real cultural/social/political etc. issues and backgrounds - mostly from Asia/the Middle East. I find them a really personalised way to learn even just the littlest bit about things which might otherwise seem rather 'foreign', in all senses. If this is anything like, say, Khaled Hosseini's books, then I'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

  3. Hi Kirstie! Well said! I never thought I'd like this type of book, never thought I'd be so drawn in and appreciative of the setting. But I really loved the feeling of being immersed in the land and the culture in this historical novel. I think you'd really love it! I loved Hosseini's books too! Drop by and let me know if you ever do read this one and what you think :)
