Glitter Block Nail Art with Selena Gomez Nicole by OPI Collection - Swatch and Review

Hi there.
I had a prevalent thought while working on this mani...and that is, there's a reason people don't do tape/nail art with glitters. Sigh. This didn't execute as well as I'd imagined...but understandable because of the type of polishes I used. I used four of the new Selena Gomez polishes from the upcoming Nicole by OPI collection. There are 14 in this set inspired by the actress and singer Selena Gomez. I'll be showing you the rest of these in separate posts. Earlier today I posted a New Year's Eve look with a different 4 polishes from the collection. See it here.

Nicole by OPI: Mi Fanasia, Sweet Dreams, Love Song, Inner Sparkle
Two coats Nicole by OPI Love Song, no top coat. Super easy application. Great formula. I'll definitely be reaching for this one again.
I wanted to use Love Song as a base, it's a lovely true medium purple with the tiniest hint of shimmer. So..when I couldn't decide which one of these 3 glitters to use with it..I decided to go with ALL of them. It is not easy to do tape manis with glitters, and you can see how it's a little bulky where the glitters are. I think it was a valiant effort, and without the macro lens..they looked great in person :)
Nicole by OPI Inner Sparkle - a very pretty mix of light pink and lavender glitters. And I was right, it looks great over Love Song.
Nicole by OPI Mi Fantasia - small holo bar glitters and tons of micro glitters. This one is really packed with glitter, making it easier to work with for this look. Also, looks great with Love Song!
Nicole by OPI Sweet Dreams - pretty mix of purple, teal and silver glitters. Yes, also looks great over Love Song :)

This was an interesting look for me, I've never tried a tape mani with so much glitter! What do you think? Hit or miss? I loved the purple and the glitters were great, exactly what you would expect. Pretty sure my favorite is Inner Sparkle. Something so girly, and it just screams Spring to me with it's pastel feel :D

Pretty in Plum Selena Gomez lacquers will be available January 2013 for $7.99 each at retailers including select Target, Walmart, CVS, K-mart, Rite Aid, ULTA, Sears, Meijer, Fred Meyer, Kroger and H-E-B locations. 1. Nice! This is a really neat idea. For me, I'd probably stick to one glitter and tape off parts, instead of using three. But I'm a firm believer that you need to try things in order to really learn what you like and don't like. And I agree with you that the macro lens picks up things that you wouldn't see in person.

I was surprised how much I liked this collection. I'm not a Selena Gomez fan. I saw it at Shoppers before Christmas and ended up picking out five. I just finished swatching them, so I'm looking forward to seeing what else you're going to do with them. :)

  2. I usually reverse the polishes. .. glitter first, solid on top of I'm taping. Turns out much better. :)

  5. My eye is drawn to the clarity of hue in a # of colors from this collection - but I don't think I will buy any - they all seem like I have something close to them already - nothing unique - but that's me, who has a zillion polishes and has collected this current stash since the late 80's...but younger collections, this might be of interest and certainly all her fans will like it - funny now that she and the Biebs broke up - she has her NOPI collection finally that really I think looks better than the JB one done 2 yrs ago.

  8. Not sure what a tape mani is. Do you have a tutorial?

  9. Hi Colleen, it's any mani that uses tape to help you get that straight line. Here's one: http://www.manicurator.com/2012/08/rescue-beauty-lounge-cool-tones-nail.html
